Assistant Foreign Minister Miao Deyu Meets with WHO Regional Director for the Western Pacific Saia Ma'u Piukala

On March 20, 2024, Assistant Foreign Minister Miao Deyu met with visiting WHO Regional Director for the Western Pacific Saia Ma'u Piukala. The two sides had an exchange of views on global health governance, China's cooperation with the World Health Organization (WHO), and other issues.

Miao Deyu introduced China's development philosophy and achievements in the field of health, noting that China adheres to the people-centered philosophy of development and prioritizes ensuring the health of the people in its development strategy. China attaches great importance to its good cooperation relationship with the WHO, appreciates the WHO's adherence to the one-China principle, and stands ready to actively participate in global health governance, and actively explore new areas of cooperation with the WHO, especially with the Western Pacific Region, under the frameworks of the Belt and Road Initiative and the Global Development Initiative, so as to promote the building of a global community of health for all.

Piukala highly appreciated China's achievements in the development of health, thanked China for its strong support for the WHO and its important contribution to global health governance, and expressed that the WHO will firmly pursue the one-China principle, and looks forward to further deepening cooperation with China to jointly promote the development of health in the region and the world at large.
